The Story of Lakshmi and Ulluka

Long ago, in the beautiful forests of the heavens, there was an owl named Ulluka. Ulluka was not like other birds. He was very quiet, and he preferred to be awake at night rather than during the day. Because of this, many other animals thought he was strange and didn’t understand him. But Ulluka was wise and patient and kept to himself.

One day, Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, was searching for a special companion. She wanted someone who could help her bring wisdom, peace, and balance to the world. She searched far and wide, looking at many animals, but none seemed quite right.

Then, one night, as she was watching the world, she noticed Ulluka, the quiet owl, gliding gracefully through the dark sky. She was intrigued by how he moved so calmly, without disturbing anyone. She decided to approach Ulluka.

When Lakshmi spoke to him, Ulluka bowed respectfully and listened carefully. She asked him, “O Ulluka, you seem so wise and calm. Why do you live in such silence and prefer the night?”

Ulluka replied humbly, “Dear Goddess, I find peace in the quiet of the night. It helps me see things clearly, and I can think deeply without any distractions.”

Lakshmi was pleased with his answer. She realized that Ulluka’s calmness and wisdom were just what she was looking for in a companion. She said, “Ulluka, would you like to be my vaahana, my special companion? Together, we will bring not only wealth but also wisdom and calmness to the world.”

Ulluka was honored. He agreed happily and promised to always stay by her side.

And that is how Ulluka, the wise and calm owl, became the vaahana of Goddess Lakshmi. Together, they travel across the world, bringing wealth, peace, and wisdom wherever they go.
